Who we are
CryptoReview.au is run by a small, independent team based in Australia. We're not a media company, a VC-backed startup, or a content farm. We're traders and long-term holders who use these exchanges with our own money — and we write about what we find.
The site launched in 2018 when the Australian crypto exchange landscape was a mess of offshore platforms and unclear regulation. Since AUSTRAC began enforcing Digital Currency Exchange registration that same year, the market has matured significantly. So has our coverage.
What we do
We review crypto exchanges that operate legally in Australia, focusing on the things that actually matter: fees, AUD deposit methods, AUSTRAC registration, supported coins, customer support, and tax reporting features. We don't cover NFT marketplaces, DeFi protocols, or offshore exchanges that lack Australian regulation — those are different beasts.
How we review
Every exchange on this site is one we've opened an account with, deposited AUD into, and used to execute real trades. We hold positions across multiple exchanges so we can compare the experience honestly — the apps, the support response times, the withdrawal speeds, the EOFY tax reports.
We document this process in our review methodology, which explains exactly what we test and how we score.
How we make money
Most of the exchanges we review have affiliate programs. If you sign up through one of our links and trade, we may receive a commission. This never affects our rankings. Every page on this site that contains affiliate links carries a clear disclosure, in line with ACCC guidelines.
To keep this honest, we apply three rules:
- We rank exchanges before checking which ones pay the highest commission.
- We cover exchanges that don't have affiliate programs (or whose programs we don't participate in) when they're worth covering.
- We disclose every affiliate relationship clearly — not buried in a footer.
What we don't do
We don't provide financial, investment, or tax advice. We're not licensed to. This site is general information only — for personal advice, speak to a licensed financial adviser or registered tax agent. See our full disclaimer.
We also don't:
- Accept paid placements or "sponsored rankings" — if you see an exchange on our top list, it earned its spot.
- Promote pump-and-dump schemes, ICOs, or meme coin launches.
- Run a Discord, Telegram "signals" group, or trading course.
- Cover gambling sites, casinos, or anything outside spot crypto trading.
Editorial standards
We update review pages monthly to reflect fee changes, new feature launches, and any compliance issues. The "Last updated" date at the top of each page reflects the most recent substantive review — not just a typo fix.
When we make a mistake, we correct it visibly. When an exchange's standing changes — up or down — we say why.
